I’ve been interested in the new wave of French (extremist) horror for some time now but my only experience of it had been Inside, which didn’t appeal to me that much. It had it’s gory moments, many buckets of blood, lot of disgusting scenes, but overall I felt that it relied a bit too much on the gore. Originating from that which is deemed “transgressive” or offensive, this new wave of extreme films does so under the origins of French film makers. Arriving from that, these films have fallen under the modern categorization of what some call “French Extreme” or “ New French Extremity “. Not unlike certain modern horror films which take things to 2009-07-04 top 10 New French Extremity ( New wave of French horror) movies French New Wave – The 400 Blows.

New French Extremity (or "New French Extremism") is a term coined by Artforum critic James Quandt for a collection of transgressive films by French directors at the turn of the 21st century. The filmmakers are also discussed by Jonathan Romney of The Independent.
