STEWART, ELINORE PRUITT (1876-1933) Born in White Bead Hill in the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, on June 3, 1876, Elinore Pruitt Stewart was no stranger to hardship. At eighteen, with both parents dying within a year of each other, Stewart became responsible for six siblings. Almost nothing is known of Elinor Pruitt Stewart's early life. She was one of six children who were raised by their grandparents after their parents died "within a year of each other." She grew up in Indian Territory (Oklahoma), married, but lost her first husband in a railroad accident. In 1909 Elinore went to work for Clyde Stewart, at his isolated ranch in Wyoming. Six weeks later she married the 41 year old widower.
